What are the applications of polypropylene staple fibers? Let's take a look together!

Release time:2025-07-10

Polypropylene staple fibers are currently widely used in industries such as geotextiles, sanitary materials, filter cloth, fabric, various non-woven fabrics, automotive interiors, spinning, carpets, engineering materials, composite materials, filling materials, sound insulation and heat insulation, and felt products.

Polypropylene staple fiber, also known as PP fiber or polypropylene. Polypropylene staple fibers are made from propylene as raw material through a one-step short-path spinning process. Polypropylene began industrial production in 1957. As the raw material only requires propylene, which is relatively abundant and inexpensive, and the production process is simple, it is currently one of the cheaper synthetic fibers. Polypropylene has good performance and a relatively fast development speed. Worldwide, its output is second only to polyester, nylon, acrylic, etc.

Does everyone know the characteristics and applications of polypropylene staple fibers?

Relative density: Polypropylene has the lowest relative density among all synthetic fibers, approximately 0.91g/cm ³. Therefore, it is extremely light in weight and can cover a large area per unit weight of fiber.

Strength: The strength of polypropylene is similar to that of high-strength synthetic fiber varieties such as polyester and nylon, but its strength hardly changes in the wet state, which is superior to nylon.

Wear resistance and corrosion resistance: The flat abrasion resistance of polypropylene is second only to that of nylon, but its flexural abrasion resistance is slightly inferior. Corrosion resistance: It has remarkable stability against inorganic acids and alkalis.

Hygroscopicity and dyeability: Polypropylene has almost no hygroscopicity, with a moisture regain rate of less than 0.03%. The shrinkage rate of fabrics is small, and fine denier polypropylene has a strong core absorption effect. The color fastness is poor, and ordinary fuels cannot dye it.

Electrical insulation and warmth retention: Polypropylene has a very high resistivity (7×10Ω.cm) and a low thermal conductivity. Compared with other chemical fibers, polypropylene has good electrical insulation and warmth retention, but it is prone to static electricity during processing.

Heat resistance and aging resistance: The melting point of polypropylene is low (165~173℃), and it has poor stability to light and heat. Therefore, polypropylene has poor heat resistance and aging resistance, and is not resistant to ironing. However, its anti-aging performance can be enhanced by adding anti-aging agents during spinning.

In addition, like other synthetic fibers, polypropylene is not prone to mold or rot and is not afraid of insect damage.

Hubei Botao Synthetic Fiber Co., Ltd. was established in November 2002 and is located in Jingmen High-tech Industrial Development Zone, covering an area of 300,000 square meters. It has five subsidiaries. Our company is a professional manufacturer and seller of polypropylene, polyester, composite fibers, polyethylene fibers, polylactic acid staple fibers and various non-woven fabrics. Our main products are widely used in automotive interiors, geotextiles, carpets, filtration, hygiene, spinning and other industries. By 2024, the company's production capacity of polypropylene staple fiber will be over 150,000 tons and that of polyester staple fiber will be 20,000 tons. After more than 20 years of unremitting efforts in the manufacturing of polypropylene fibers, it has ranked among the top three in terms of sales revenue and market share for five consecutive years. It is currently one of the top three suppliers in terms of the production capacity of polypropylene staple fibers. On December 25, 2024, the company obtained the letter of approval for listing from the National Equities Exchange and Quotations Company
